Called the Holy Grail of tonewoods, this instrument is crafted of Red Spruce from the forests of Labrador. Our tonewood supplier selects the trees to be taken from the sheltered North side of hills, and personally splits the felled blocks apart with axe and froe to ensure that the grain of the timber runs straight.
This drum features wood with between 15 to 20 growth lines per inch with the grain oriented vertically to take advantage of the remarkable stiffness of Spruce. At 13 by 6.5 by 1/4 of an inch thick, this shell weighs a mere 14 ounces and is finished with French Polish over an emerald green aniline dye. The solid brass lugs are handmade by Don Corder with gold plated strainer by Nickel Drumworks and Stanbridge Drum Co. green and gold calfskin badge.
This drum has a crisp, clear and articulate sound with superb sensitivity even at whisper volume.
