13 by 6.25 inch snare drum in Verawood from Venezuela. This incredible wood is a cousin to the more commonly known Ironwood (Lignum Vitae), and shares its great density and waxy nature. It is a very technically demanding wood species to work with, but the results are outstanding.
Because of the tremendous stability of Verawood, this drum and its hoops are finished only with sandpaper. The timber has a wonderfully spicy fragrance, and turns brown when freshly cut; slowly shifting to an olive green colour with exposure to sunlight.
The sound of this instrument is enormous, and it maintains great musicality across all dynamic ranges. We have had an extremely positive reaction from both the musicians and audio pros who have worked with these drums.
