The inspiration for this drum was a small piece
of wonderfully figured Leopardwood, and a looming deadline to present
something new at the Cape Breton International Drum Festival. We
originally envisioned this shell with a centre band of Zebrawood,
but once the shell was laid up it left Pete flat, so he cut it apart
and decided on the African Blackwood anchor stripe with a couple
of pinstripe details instead. Ultimately, we knew that this drum
would sound terrific as the majority of the shell was constructed
of tonally rich Hawaiian Koa wood, and the Ebony hoops bring the
rimshot sound to a higher plane. Going into the show we didn't have
a buyer, but Todd Sucherman from Styx was one of the clinicians,
and well.... you know...

to the color palette of the rest of the drum.
