15 by 5 by THIN!

Our client wanted something big and orange. That's
not much to go on, but that can be when it's the most fun. We decided
to try turning the thinnest solid wood shell imaginable - 1/8th
of an inch thick. To hold it together we fingerjointed each of the
shell blocks, and then turned a pair of delicate fingerjointed reinforcement
rings with integrated bearing edges. The result is a shell which
is whisper thin, super sensitive and articulate.
The big 15" head leaves lots of real estate
for brush work, and provides a major league sweet spot for backbeat
work. The hoops are Padauk which is naturally orange, and the throwoff
is an Ayotte Drumsmith model holding Puresound 1520 Custom wires.
A fun and satisfying drum to play (and build).
