A true Rosewood which grows in many regions of Central and South America, Cocobolo has an incredible interlocking grain figure and rich red and orange hues which are really explosive under a high gloss lacquer. Acoustically, this wood is magically expressive and drips with tone and harmonics no matter what the musical application. Understandably, I am a huge fan.

Our client has a wonderful collection of high-end instruments from some major drum companies, but wanted something utterly unique and exciting to look at and play. I had enough Leopardwood left from the single plank I found years ago to make one solid centre band, and we decided to distinguish this with a pair of elegant black pinstripes to give it a little visual lift.

I think the result is an astounding looking instrument, and I know from our client that this drum (and his Stanbridge Limited Edition Ancient Kauri 5.5 by 14) have quickly become his favorites. So much so that there is a full drum kit coming in Bubinga and Birdseye Maple to keep his other drums company!
