I don’t get a lot of requests for Maple drums because I think that people feel they will sound like a Maple plywood shell. Comparing a solid wood drum like ours to plywood of any species is very much apples to oranges though.
 
Our Maple drums are wonderfully bright and accurate sounding, and have a huge range of moods depending on how the drumhead is struck. I find that I can pull a big ringy concert hall sound from my little 13 inch Maple drum by playing in tight to the edge, and yet still have a relatively dry poppy backbeat in the center. Rimshots are similar, with a big fat splat, heart-stopping gunshot or passable timbale sound all possible by placing the stick a little further out.
