We moved to Newfoundland and Labrador in 2001 after having visited several years earlier. The spectacular terrain, warm and generous people, and rich cultural heritage have made this an ideal place to live, work, and raise a family and I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. Here are some pictures and commentary on The Rock.
Newfoundland
Unretouched scenic beauty.
We do get some snow. This was one night’s worth of accumulation - and yes - that is my car thank you.
These little guys are the main reason for the abundance of Humpback whales here during the summer.
Just another incredible 300 foot high precipice with roiling Atlantic beneath.
Some cod fillets drying in the wind (and more rarely - the sun).
Our neighbor’s horse Celine
(I think she thinks we can’t see her).
I saw this whalebone down on the beach, but it only turned out to be one of Tommy Lee’s bass drum spurs.
The ugliest creature in the sea, and toxic to boot. And no, I’m not talking about famous poet George Murray (with rod).
450 feet up you can see the ruins of a US Army radar station from the Second World  War.
A bright and sunny day in the North Atlantic.
My friend John Goodyear took this iceberg photo a couple of kilometers from our home.
Notice the specter hovering in the middle of this forest trail. It later turned out to be a peanut butter smudge on the lens.
This photo of Capelin drying in the wind was taken moments before it started raining and they went into the composter.
Another John Goodyear photo of the beach by our house. We don’t do a lot of surfing.
This local delicacy is part of a cod.

I’m not saying which part.
